Daycare, sitters and helpers for your Maltipoo
By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 13 July 2026
What if I cannot be home with my Maltipoo every day?
Build the company from other sources: dog daycare a few days a week, a midday sitter or dog-walker, a helper or grandparent handover, or a split-shift household schedule. A Maltipoo needs presence, not specifically yours; what it cannot do is a silent flat from 8am to 6pm daily.

The options menu, honestly ranked
Best is resident company: a helper, a grandparent, or a household schedule where someone WFHs most days. The dog integrates into a living flat, which is the environment this breed was matched for; the with-kids guide describes the multi-generation pattern at its best.
Next tier is imported company: daycare centres take social dogs for the working day (budget per-day rates and check vaccination requirements), and midday sitters or walkers break the alone-stretch in half. The occasional empty day on top of a trained alone-time foundation is fine; the untrained permanent version is how separation anxiety is built.
Making a helper handover actually work
In many Singapore households the helper looks after the dog as its daytime person, and it works beautifully with three ingredients: the helper's genuine willingness (asked, not assumed), inclusion in the training vocabulary so cues stay consistent, and clear ownership of the routine in writing: feeding times, walk timing before the heat, and the toilet protocol.
Include the helper in the delivery-day walkthrough and the free trainer lesson; the person doing the 2pm shift deserves the same briefing as the person paying. The dog, for the record, will adore them; manage your feelings about the favourite-person rankings accordingly.
Daycare due diligence
Vet the daycare like a preschool: vaccination requirements enforced (a good sign, not friction), toy-dog grouping separate from the big-dog scrum, staff ratios named, and a trial half-day before committing. A 3kg velcro dog in a boisterous free-for-all is not enrichment; a calm small-dog room absolutely is.
Start with one or two days a week rather than five; most Maltipoos do best with a mixed week of daycare, home company and the odd trained-alone stretch.
Daytime company menu
- Resident: helper, grandparent, WFH split
- Imported: daycare days, midday sitter
- Foundation: alone-time training regardless
- Daycare: toy-dog grouping, trial day first
- Silent 8-6 flat daily: not this breed
Frequently asked questions
How much is dog daycare in Singapore?
Typically tens of dollars per day with package discounts; rates vary by area and inclusions. The trial day tells you more than the price list.
Can my helper legally walk the dog?
Of course; the licence names an owner, not a walker. What matters is briefing, willingness and the before-9am heat rule.
Is a camera and treat-dispenser enough?
As monitoring, useful; as company, no. A camera shows you the loneliness in HD; it does not fix it.
We both WFH but travel monthly. Workable?
Very: that is a company-rich routine with occasional gaps, exactly what boarding, sitters or the free first-month boarding option are for. Plan the gaps before the trips.
Can you leave a Maltipoo alone all day?
No. A silent flat from 8am to 6pm every weekday is exactly what this attachment-dependent breed cannot do; it is the classic setup for separation anxiety. Build daytime company from daycare, a sitter, or a helper instead.
How do I choose a good dog daycare?
Vet it like a preschool: vaccination requirements actually enforced, toy dogs grouped away from the big-dog scrum, named staff ratios, and a trial half-day before you commit. Start with one or two days a week, not five.
