Getting around Singapore with a Maltipoo
By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 13 July 2026
Can you take a Maltipoo on public transport in Singapore?
Only assistance dogs ride the MRT and public buses; pet dogs are not permitted, carrier or otherwise, under the current conditions of carriage. A 2 to 4kg Maltipoo still travels easily: GrabPet and pet-friendly taxis take carriers routinely, regular taxis at the driver's discretion, and the carrier itself is the all-access pass everywhere else.

The public transport reality
The standing rule on trains and public buses is assistance dogs only; pet dogs, even zipped into carriers, are not permitted under the current conditions of carriage. Plan around it rather than testing it; the fine print is not on your side.
The practical consequence is a ride-hailing life for vet trips and groomer runs, which at toy size is cheap and easy: this is a dog that travels in a bag you can sling over one shoulder.
GrabPet, taxis and the carrier game
GrabPet drivers accept pets explicitly, with carriers preferred and small-dog rides the easiest bookings on the platform; standard taxis carry pets at the driver's discretion, and a clean, zipped carrier converts most maybes into yes. Book with a note that it is a small dog in a carrier and acceptance rates climb further.
Car-owning households: a crash-secured carrier or a harness-to-seatbelt tether, never a loose dog on a lap. At 2 to 4kg, an emergency stop turns an unsecured dog into a projectile; the physics are unkind and the fix costs one strap.
The featherweight advantage, used well
Where the toy size shines is everywhere else: malls and cafes that welcome carried pets, park connectors reached by a short ride, staycations at pet-friendly hotels where the size limit is never your problem. The carrier from the starter kit is the passport; condition the puppy to love it early with treats and short sessions at home.
For trips the dog sits out, the circle closes conveniently: boarding options, sitters and daycare, and for new buyers, the free first-month boarding window after deposit.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take my Maltipoo on the MRT in a bag?
The rule says no pets on trains and buses regardless of bag; assistance dogs are the exception. GrabPet exists for exactly this gap.
How much does GrabPet cost?
A modest surcharge over the standard fare on the same route; for a toy dog in a carrier it is the cheapest reliable option in town.
My puppy cries in the carrier. Fix?
Condition it like the crate: meals near it, treats inside it, short happy sessions at home before any journey. A carrier introduced only on vet days becomes the vet-day alarm.
Any pet-friendly cafes to start with?
Plenty across the island, changing faster than any list survives; search current roundups and call ahead. A carried, quiet toy dog gets the widest welcome.
How do I safely take a Maltipoo in a car?
A crash-secured carrier or a harness-to-seatbelt tether, never a loose dog on a lap. At 2 to 4kg an emergency stop turns an unsecured dog into a projectile, and the fix costs one strap.
Can a Maltipoo ride in a taxi in Singapore?
Standard taxis carry pets at the driver's discretion, and a clean, zipped carrier plus a heads-up that it is a small dog turns most maybes into yes. GrabPet accepts pets explicitly if you want certainty.
