Buying honestly
Adopting vs buying a Maltipoo in Singapore
By Nelson and Kim, AVS licensed pet shop owners · Updated 13 July 2026
Can you adopt a Maltipoo in Singapore?
Occasionally, and it is worth checking first: SPCA, SOSD and breed-adjacent rehoming groups list the odd toy cross, though they are rare and claimed within days. Most Maltipoos here reach new homes through licensed shops or private rehoming. Check the shelters honestly, then buy safely if nothing surfaces.

Where adoptable Maltipoos actually appear
Toy crosses are the fastest-rehomed dogs in the system, so shelter listings are rare and brief: SPCA Singapore, SOSD, Causes for Animals and Voices for Animals occasionally carry one, usually a surrendered adult rather than a puppy. Private rehoming happens quietly in community groups, often after an owner's circumstances change; the Facebook threads of families who lost an older dog and want the same breed again are where supply and demand actually meet.
Set alerts, be ready to respond same-day, and expect home checks and adoption fees; legitimate rescues screen hard, which is a feature.
Adoption honestly weighed
The case for: an adult dog's temperament is fully visible, house habits often arrive pre-installed, fees run a few hundred dollars against a four-figure purchase, and rehoming a surrendered velcro dog is genuinely good work. The case for eyes-open: surrendered dogs can carry separation anxiety or vet debts of unknown history, puppies are essentially never available, and a specific colour or size wish may mean years of waiting.
The honest test is the same routine question we ask buyers: a home with daytime company suits an anxious rehomed Maltipoo, often carrying separation anxiety, even better than it suits a puppy.
If you buy instead, buy safely
No shelter luck after a genuine look is nothing to feel guilty about; most Maltipoo homes here started at a licensed shop. Safety is the same checklist either way: seller on the AVS registry, vaccination records for weeks 6 and 8 shown before money moves, and a physical location you can walk into.
What never counts as adoption: 'adoption fee' listings on marketplaces at half market price with courier-only handover. That is the smuggling economy wearing rescue vocabulary, and NParks has fined a buyer $7,000 for exactly that purchase.
Adoption reality card
- Shelters: rare listings, gone in days
- Adults surrendered, puppies essentially never
- Fees: hundreds, with screening (a feature)

Frequently asked questions
How much is a Maltipoo adoption fee?
Legitimate rescues typically charge a few hundred dollars covering sterilisation, vaccinations and microchip; anyone charging near-market price is selling, not rehoming.
Why are there so few Maltipoos in shelters?
Toy companion crosses are surrendered rarely and claimed instantly. The waiting list is informal: alerts, groups, and patience.
Are rehomed Maltipoos harder work?
Sometimes: separation anxiety is the common baggage, and it wants exactly the homes-with-company routine this breed needs anyway. Fully visible temperament is the compensating gift.
Do you sell rehomed dogs?
Our shop places puppies, and when past customers need to rehome we help match quietly. Ask on WhatsApp; the honest answer may be a shelter link.
Where can I adopt a Maltipoo in Singapore?

Is a cheap Maltipoo adoption listing safe?
No. A half-market-price 'adoption fee' with courier-only handover is the smuggling economy wearing rescue vocabulary; NParks has fined a buyer $7,000 for exactly that. Real rescues screen hard and hand over in person.
