What is a Maltipoo called in Chinese?

What is a Maltipoo called in Chinese?

The descriptive name is 马尔济斯贵宾犬 (Mǎ'ěrjìsī guìbīn quǎn), literally Maltese-Poodle dog, often shortened to 马尔泰贵宾. In Taiwan and in affectionate use you will also meet 摩天使 (mó tiānshǐ, 'Mo angel'). For searching Chinese content, 马尔济斯贵宾 finds the most.

The name, taken apart

Chinese breed names describe rather than transliterate blindly: 马尔济斯 (Mǎ'ěrjìsī) is the Maltese, 贵宾犬 (guìbīn quǎn, literally 'honoured-guest dog') is the Poodle, and stacking them gives 马尔济斯贵宾犬, the Maltese-Poodle. It reads formal because it is; this is the pet-shop-signage version.

Grandparents may find the Poodle half familiar already: 贵宾犬 has been the standard term for decades, and a Maltipoo introduced as half 贵宾 gets an approving nod for the clever side of the family.

The cute versions people actually use

Online and in Taiwan-influenced communities the breed picked up 摩天使, 'Mo angel', an affectionate mash of the sound of Mal- with the angelic white-fluff look. Mainland platforms also use 马泰犬 as a compact mash-up. None are wrong; they are registers, from clinic paperwork to Instagram caption.

In multi-generation Singapore households this matters practically: the helper may know the dog by one name, grandma by another, and the vet's system by a third. All three point at the same apricot lap dog.

Where the Chinese terms earn their keep

Searching 马尔济斯贵宾 unlocks a large Chinese-language owner ecosystem: grooming tutorials, feeding threads and health discussions that the English search bubble never surfaces. Cross-checking advice across both languages is a quiet superpower for a first-time owner.

Locally, the terms help at Chinese-speaking groomers and clinics, and in family group chats where the puppy announcement lands better in the reader's first language. For the record, our shop answers happily in either.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one official Chinese name?

No single registry name exists for a crossbreed; 马尔济斯贵宾犬 is the standard descriptive form, and the variants are register, not error.

What do vets in Singapore write?

Usually the English 'Maltipoo' or 'Maltese X Poodle' in the system, with Chinese-speaking staff recognising 马尔济斯贵宾 instantly.

How do I pronounce 摩天使?

Mó tiānshǐ, roughly 'mo tyen-shr'; the last two characters mean angel, which the breed's marketing department did not fight.

What is a Cavapoo called in Chinese, while we are here?

骑士贵宾犬, the Cavalier-Poodle; the naming logic stacks the same way for every Poodle cross.

What is the best Chinese search term for Maltipoo content?

The Maltese-Poodle descriptive form (马尔济斯贵宾) unlocks the most, a large Chinese-language ecosystem of grooming tutorials, feeding threads and health discussion the English search bubble never surfaces.

Why does the Maltipoo have several Chinese names?

They are registers rather than errors: a formal descriptive name for signage and clinics, compact mash-ups online, and the affectionate 'Mo angel' nickname, all pointing at the same apricot lap dog.
